In 1999. CSR Boardmills, manufacturers of burnie board, closed down their manufacturing plant at Bacchus Marsh and moved operations to Queensland.
The site on the cnr. of Rowsley Station and Geelong-Balliang Rds consists of 78ha of Zone 2 industrial land and 354ha of farmland. As this property abuts the Calleja coal mine and landfill site, it was an ideal purchase when it came onto the market.
The existing manufacturing complex consists of several large brick buildings which housed over 450 employees at the peak of CSR’s manufacturing period.
Since its acquisition, Calleja has developed the manufacturing complex into an industrial estate, and there are currently 11 tenants housed in the original buildings and newly constructed sheds. Additional sheds will be constructed for new tenants as required.
The 354ha area of farming land is being run as a farm with a herd of over 450 Angus cattle, cereal cropping and sheep grazing.
